Charis Rose Handmade Goods (Oct 21+22)
Charis Birchall was raised among a family of artists, where she was surroundedby creative activity and artistic expression, whether it was music, ceramics, painting, illustration or metalsmithing. These childhood inspirations drew her to the Alberta College of Art & Design, where she earned a BFA in Fibre Arts. In 2015 she left her career in the non-profit art sector to pursue a growing need to both create art and enable her kids to create art... and feed them, clean them, clothe them and get them to school on time. Charis is drawn to clean and simple design, which translates into the patterns she creates. The designs begin as sketches, and she uses these sketches to form repeat patterns that are either burned onto a silk screen or carved into a rubber block. She block- or screen-prints her patterns using water-based, solvent-free inks onto natural fibres, which are made into bags, scarves and pillows.
