Evelyn Grant Design (Oct 21+22)
I am a ceramic artist with a diploma in ceramics, Alberta College of Art, BFA degree University of Calgary, and in 2010, a Masters degree with distinction in Ceramic Design, Staffordshire University, Stoke on Trent. Teaching has been consistent throughout my career, recently at Emily Carr university ceramic program. Exhibition highlights include Maison et Object design fair, Paris, France; New York Now design fair, NY; and the Chegong International Ceramic fair with the Alberta Craft Council. Am in numerous public and private collections, and have work represented by Liberty of London, Isetan Mitsukosi and Blue Tree NY design stores.
My work falls in the area between design and fine craft. I utilize the techniques of industrial ceramics combined with traditional ceramic processes to create unique works which satisfy my creative impulse. I am a compulsive collector, and found the UK to be a vast wonderland of fabulous ephemera, architecture, and amazing collections which inform my new work. I utilize both premade porcelain blanks as well as my own hand made shapes as a canvas for my design concepts, and see value in both. Humour and irony are often present in the work.
