Mayview Studio

I have been working as a professional ceramic artist since graduating from the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2002.

I have been selected for numerous exhibitions in Calgary, Edmonton, St. Albert, Winnipeg, Waterloo, London, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Florida, Sydney (Australia) and Seoul South Korea. I recently had the honour to be included in an exhibition at the University of Manitoba that celebrated the past 50 years of studio pottery in Canada.

The work I create reflects my strong love of place; where I grew up, where I am now, and recent places I have visited.

All of these influences feed my love of nature. Trees and other natural objects influence the decoration that I place on my work.

Through the use of porcelain clay I am able to create beautiful light and depth, and trees or flowers are painted on the vessels using a variety of slips and underglazes. Sometimes I will carve the trees to suggest the texture of bark. The resulting pieces are sometimes functional, while others are sculptural.
