I was farming back in the early 90's and realized that If I wanted to create some beautiful structures on my farm I would have to learn how to build them myself. I spent several winters down in NM and learned how to build straw bale structures and eventually timber frame construction. The mortise and tenon joinery behind timber frames eventually became furniture for myself and others. My desire to work with reclaimed materials with their rich palette and warmth led me to salvaging buildings and having an inventory on hand to craft dining tables, beds and what ever is asked of me.
Salvaging buildings has grown to include other types of materials from local Calgary businesses and as a result I am able to offer cutting boards and trays from hardwoods left over from kitchen construction. It just seems like I can smell interesting materials as I drive around Calgary and find cool ways to bring another life to wood as something useful for customers.
